Botanical Name is Botanical Name: Humulus lupulus. It grows in Northern America and Western Asia as well as Europe. Belongs to the Cannabaceae family and promotes relaxation and sleep. It has been used in beer brewing since the 11th century. It contains phytoestrogen and can have an aphrosodiac effect on women and support women who go through menopause, however, hops have the opposite effect on men, meaning it is anti-aphrodisiac.

It is hepatic and stimulant biles flow and works digestive bitter. The main constituents of hops are the bitter acids, lupulone, and humulone according to Diana M. Taibi, and Carol A. Landis, in Complementary and Alternative Therapies and the Aging Population, 2009 and hops have been shown to bind to melatonin and serotonin receptors, although it remains unknown whether this binding produces receptor agonist or antagonist effects [75].

Hops has been shown in animal studies to exert sedative effects, primarily through the alpha-bitter acid content
