Botanical Name Centaurea cyanus., but also known under common names such as blue ca0, blue poppy, hurt sickle, bachelor’s button.

It belongs to Compositae family. Native to Mediterranean Europe, western Asia, and Great Britain. The cornflowers grow up to 30 inches tall with deep blue blossoms. Corn flowers are hermaphrodites as a side note. Its constituents are anthocyanins, antioxidants, coumarin, Cuprene, Tannins and Sesquiterpene lactose, as well as calcium and biotin.

It can be beneficial for digestion, and liver detoxification and if stronger infusions as used it may have antibiotic qualities and may help treat UTIs. Cornflowers were used in antiquity. The Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamun was buried in cornflowers, and the Greek Hero Achilles was treated with cornflowers after the was shot with an arrow. The famous herbalist Culpepper from the 1600s used cornflowers to treat scorpion bites, pestilences and fevers and as eye wash.
